Privacy policy

Written by reading the app rather than by filling in a template, so it names the one thing that actually sends data off the phone instead of listing things that do not apply.

The controller of any personal data described here is Alexander Volkov, the independent developer of the algasKalkulators app, reachable at contacts@algas-kalkulators.suxlv2.space.

Google Ireland Limited acts as a separate controller for the advertising described under Advertising. What Google does with what it receives is governed by Google's own policies, not by this document, and this policy does not attempt to speak for Google.

Two things: the Android app algasKalkulators (package `com.suxlv2.algaskalkulators2`), and this website at https://algas-kalkulators.suxlv2.space.

The app shows a shorter privacy notice of its own, in Settings. Where the two differ, this page is the current one: the notice inside the app is older text that has not yet been replaced, and it describes collection that does not happen — see the note at the end of There is no account.

The app has no sign-in, no registration and no profile. It does not ask for your name, your e-mail address, your telephone number or your personal identity code, and there is no server belonging to the developer for such data to be sent to.

A note about the notice shown inside the app: it is generic text from an old template, and it says that an e-mail address is collected in order to contact you. That is not true of this app and never was. It is being replaced; until it is, this page is the one that describes what actually happens.

Salaries, benefits, loan amounts, deposits, the number of dependants, a disability group, whether you are a pensioner — all of it stays on the device and is used only to produce the result on screen.

Specifically:

  • It is not transmitted anywhere. Every calculation runs on the phone, and the calculators work with the device fully offline.
  • It is not saved. The app has no database and writes no files of its own. What you typed lives in the screen's state so that it survives rotating the phone or Android reclaiming memory, and it is gone when the screen is closed.
  • It is not attached to you. There is no identifier in the app to attach it to.
  • It is not sent to the advertising SDK. The banner receives no field from any calculator; what it does receive is listed under Advertising.

Two small things, both local to the phone and neither of them sent anywhere by the app.

  • The theme you chose — follow the system, light or dark. This is one entry in the app's own preferences.
  • Counters used by the component that occasionally offers you the chance to rate the app: when it was first launched and how many times it has been opened. They exist so that the prompt appears once rather than every time.
  • The app is not opted out of Android's backup framework, so these two items may be included in the backup Android makes to your own Google account, along with the rest of the phone. Turning that off is a system setting, not an app one.

The app is free and is paid for by advertising. A Google AdMob banner is shown at the bottom of the screen, and the Google Mobile Ads SDK is initialised when the app starts.

This is the only part of the app that communicates with the outside world, and it is the reason the app requests the INTERNET permission. It is also the reason the app cannot be described as tracking-free: what Google's SDK sends is not visible to the developer and is not limited by this document.

What Google receives, by Google's own description of the SDK:

  • The device's advertising identifier, and whether you have asked for personalised advertising to be limited.
  • The IP address of your connection, from which an approximate location — normally the country — is derived.
  • Information about the device and the app: model, operating system version, application identifier and version, screen dimensions and language.
  • Records of which advertisements were requested, shown and interacted with, which is what makes the placement measurable and payable.
  • No precise location is requested by the app, and no location permission is present in it.

The app does not show a consent dialog of its own before the banner loads.

The control you do have is the system one, and it applies to every app on the phone: in Android's settings, under Privacy and then Ads, the advertising identifier can be deleted and personalised advertising can be turned off. Google's own advertising settings, at google.com/settings/ads, apply to your Google account.

What Google does with the data it receives is set out in Google's privacy policy and in the Google Advertising Policies. This is the point at which data described here stops being under the developer's control.

The build contains no analytics or crash-reporting library: no Firebase Analytics, no Crashlytics, no Sentry, and no equivalent from anyone else. Screens you open, buttons you press and crashes you hit are not collected, and the developer does not see them.

Google Play's own console reports install counts, crash rates and similar figures to the developer, in aggregate and anonymised. That is a property of publishing on Play, applies to every app on it, and is not something the app itself does.

The site collects nothing. It carries no JavaScript, sets no cookies, has no analytics and loads nothing from a third-party address: the fonts, images and stylesheet are served from this domain. The server enforces this in the Content-Security-Policy header it sends with every page, so a violation would break the page rather than pass quietly.

There is no comment form, no newsletter and nothing to sign up for. Nothing on the site asks for personal data, and there is nowhere for it to be entered.

Two things happen anyway, as with any website:

  • The hosting provider records ordinary server logs — IP address, time, requested address, browser identification — as part of operating and securing the server. They are kept for a short period and are not used to build a profile of anyone.
  • The site is served through Cloudflare's network, which terminates the connection and applies its own security and caching. Cloudflare therefore also sees the IP address of the request. This is infrastructure, not a marketing tool: there is no Cloudflare analytics on the site.

The app calculates salaries, taxes, benefits and loans and is intended for adults. It is not directed at children, does not ask for age, and does not knowingly collect data from children.

Under the General Data Protection Regulation you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability. Exercising them here has an unusual shape, because the developer holds almost nothing.

  • There is no account and no stored history of your calculations, so there is nothing for the developer to hand over, correct or delete on request.
  • Data about advertising is held by Google, and requests about it are made to Google. The controls in Android's advertising settings work immediately and without asking anyone.
  • You can write to contacts@algas-kalkulators.suxlv2.space with any question about this policy, and a person will answer.
  • If you believe your data has been handled unlawfully, you may complain to the supervisory authority in your country. In Latvia this is the Data State Inspectorate (Datu valsts inspekcija).

If the app changes in a way that affects data — a new library, a change to the advertising, or anything that begins to send something off the device — this page is updated and the date at the top changes with it.

The address of this page does not change. It is the address referred to from Google Play and from the app, and old versions of the app will point at it for years.
